Sample Forms: Press Release

Posted on 24. Jan, 2011 by .

When I took a group to Mexico, I worked for a church that had a pretty strong communications department. A few weeks before the trip, the communications director asked me if I wanted to issue a press release? Sure!

So, why issue a press release? To let people know about what you’re doing. It’s good for your church and good for the community. With a trip like this, many people were interested in knowing what we were doing and in the end, it could mean people coming to visit a church that reaches out to other communities… with kids.

Sample Forms: Q & A

When organizing our trip to Ensenada, Mexico, we tried to think of questions parents would have and create answers on a Q & A. Amazingly, many of our parents were quite and satisfied. Sometimes the secret to creating a great Q & A is to pull a parent aside, tell them about what you’re doing and see what questions they have. Every trip is different, but feel free to use this Q & A as a template.

Sample Forms: Release from Liability Form

You probably already have one of these from your church for lock-ins, summer camps or other activities. All we did here was take the form we already used and modified it for the Mission Trip to Mexico. Pretty simple really. If you need a thorough sample to use as a template, feel free to borrow this one. Be sure to run it through your leadership though as many churches have legal help look over these kinds of documents before they are used.

Sample Forms: Adult Application

When I took 20 4th and 5th graders to Ensenada, Mexico in 2007, it was my goal to maintain a strict 1:3 ratio of adults to kids. In the end, we kept a 1:2 ratio. Adults participating ranged from chaperones who had small roles other than experiencing a mission trip with their child as well as leaders who oversaw a group of kids, led programs or oversaw major elements such as food service/planning, ministry activities or transportation. Regardless, every adult filled out an Adult Participant Application. In addition to this, they filled out a volunteer application and had a background check.

Sample Forms: Child Application

When I took 20 4th and 5th graders to Ensenada, Mexico in 2007, I required every child to complete an application. First of all, it did serve as the basis of all information about the child and his/her family, but the essay questions at the end gave me an idea of their spiritual life. It was important that on a Mission Trip to Mexico, I was only going to take kids who were a little more serious about their faith and actively perusing a relationship with God.

Sample Schedule: Four Day Mission Trip

Back in 2007, I took a group of 40 on a four day mission trip to Ensenada, Mexico. It was a powerful trip, my first international trip with kids. If going again, I would have scheduled the trip for one additional day. Regardless, here is a great sample of what the schedule looked like. It included all of our travel and ministry while in Mexico. Just about every hour was planned and accounted for on this trip.

College Students: Release children from poverty in Jesus Name

Posted on 13. Dec, 2010 by .

I came across this post this morning. What an incredible opportunities for college students. I don’t know if a lot of college students read this blog, but I’d certainly point them to this opportunity. Addressing social justice has become very popular in recent years (sounds very weird to write it that way), but Compassion has been in the trenches for decades, freeing children from poverty.

Compassion is offering a summer internship to College Students who meet the requirements. It’s an incredible opportunity to develop some business/occupational skills, grow relationally with others, experience some Colorado adventures all while doing the work of ministry. If this had been available to me as a college student, I would have been all over this. Best of all, it is an actual summer job… you get paid! Click here for more information about the internship.… Read the rest

Pray for significant outreach happening now

Screen shot 2010-02-25 at 8.08.38 AMOver the years you have probably seen my posts about my friends who serve the people in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Their names are Joel and Heidi Hayslip and Burknia Faso is one of the poorest countries in all of Africa. However, the door is wide open for ministry, and the Hayslips are doing some very strategic work. Burkina Faso is a predominantly Muslim state, but the government is very open to ministry team coming in. As a result, Joel and Heidi are equipping churches by raising up and training children’s pastors to reach the children of the remote villages. Reaching adult Muslims is a nearly impossible task, yet the children are so open to Jesus and as a result, thousands of children, their parents and often tribal leaders are coming to faith because of the work being doing with the children.… Read the rest

Western Christian culture may vanish in our lifetime!

I just came across the most eye opening information. As a Christ-Follower in Western society, you must pay attention! According to this information, European culture as we know it today will vanish within our lifetime and there isn’t anything that can be done to stop it. The United States is standing on the brink, but it doesn’t look positive for us either.

Here is what I am talking about.

In order for a culture to maintain itself for more than 25 years, they must have a fertility rate of at least 2.11. That’s 2.11 children per family. Historically, no culture has ever reversed a 1.9 fertility rate. A rate of 1.3 is impossible to reverse.

Here are the fertility rates of some European nations:

  • France: 1.8
  • England:1.6
  • Greece: 1.3
  • Germany: 1.3
  • Italy: 1.2
  • Spain: 1.1

The European Union has a fertility rate of 1.38.… Read the rest

Josh Kornberg and Give a Kid a Christmas 2008

Okay, this post is really about a simple video you’ve gotta see. It’s a powerful audio and visual demonstration of lives being changed in Africa. So, take five minutes and watch the video, you’ll be glad you did.

Now this video is a little of my “worlds colliding.” You’ve seen me post quite a few times about my friends Joel and Heidi who serve as missionaries in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Well, this summer my intern, Josh Kornberg (you an call him Korndog) met Joel and Heidi and decided to go to Africa to participate in Give a Kid a Christmas. You may have seen me write about Josh, or more notable, Karl Bastion, as he made a HUGE deal out of the Korndog at Kidology U as described in this post.… Read the rest
