Are we having a boy or girl?
Posted on 14. Jul, 2011 by Kenny.
Today is the big day. At 2:30 PM CST, Sara and I are going to our 20 week check-up. We’re going to find out for sure what is growing in Sara’s belly. Now, some of you may know that we had some complications last week. Sara had to leave a day early from summer camp. Sara and our friend Cathy spent the day in a Corpus Christi emergency room. In the end, they got a peak at the baby… a very thorough peak. Although the technician wasn’t allowed to say what it was, she gave Sara and Cathy a pretty big clue. Although I couldn’t be there because I was speaking to the kids at camp, I did get to be on the phone during the sonogram.… Read the rest

New mountains on my horizon!
Posted on 01. Jun, 2011 by Kenny.
The title isn’t figurative, it’s quite literal. Two years ago Sara and I attempted to climb Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs along the Crags route. Only about 700 feet from the summit, we had to turn back due to near white-out conditions, hail and lightning. It was a wild ride. I wrote about the hike here and here and actually wrote about the adventure on my personal blog here.
Well, Sara and I have made plans to visit Colorado Springs again this summer and I’ve got the itch to conquer a 14,000 foot mountain. Because Sara is pregnant, she obviously won’t be hiking with me. Because she’s not hiking, I’m not going to attempt Pikes Peak again, that’s something she really wants to do with me again.… Read the rest

In case you missed the announcement
Posted on 06. May, 2011 by Kenny.
Yesterday afternoon I tweeted that I had a big announcement. Unfortunately, I had many issues with Vimeo and it took about 100 times longer to upload a video, so I ended up just posting a picture of Titus wearing his new shirt. In case you haven’t seen the video, here it is.
So, you probably want to know some details?
Well, we are officially ten weeks pregnant. I’ve posted just once or twice on this before, but Sara and I’ve had difficulty having children. Our only son Titus was our fourth pregnancy and Baby #2 is pregnancy #7. We consider Titus our little miracle baby and it appears that God has blessed us with another miracle.
We’re not officially out of the woods yet, so we covet your prayers.… Read the rest

Speaking at Orange for the first time
Posted on 26. Apr, 2011 by Kenny.
In case you didn’t know, I’m speaking at Orange this year. Crazy, huh?
I still can’t believe they asked me to lead a couple of breakouts. I’m excited, nervous and honored all at the same time. So, I thought I’d share with you what my breakouts are about this year.
- How to Plan a Ministry Calendar – You know that I’m passionate about this kind of stuff. I’ve written blog posts (plural) about this kind of stuff. It’s only natural that they’d pick me, ha! I think that too often we don’t make the best use of our time each year. We often have good intentions, but ministry is busy and when the year is done we wonder why we didn’t do this or that.

After the baptisms
Posted on 21. Apr, 2011 by Kenny.
For some, this is probably sacrilege. For us, it’s simply celebrating after a great Sunday with hundreds marking their decisions of faith. I’m glad my boss has a sense of humor. It was actually his idea to dunk our Senior Pastor, John Burke.

Baptism Success
Posted on 18. Apr, 2011 by Kenny.
Yesterday we help baptisms at Gateway. The weather was perfect and so many people made decisions of faith and followed Jesus in Baptism. It was an amazing sight to see. However, it was a very different experience for kids. Don’t get me wrong, I love baptisms and love celebrating this day, but for the first time in three years I was more excited about what happened than ever. I’ll share why.
- I didn’t baptize a single child
- We baptized less kids at the all-church baptism since I’ve been at Gateway
- I talked about 15 kids out of getting baptized yesterday
After reading my list, you might think I was crazy. Nope, it was all very intentional. You may have read me talk about our Gateway Baptisms before.… Read the rest
