Printing bliss
Posted on 04. Apr, 2012 by Kenny.
Last week I posted about my search for the perfect wireless laser printer. I got a couple of good recommendations, but I got an email response from someone with some pretty compelling reasons for picking up the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w.
I got it last night and I’m in love. I call it printing freedom because I can print from just about anything I care to print from. iPads, iPhone, Macs and PCs.

Good Friday resources: Where are they?
Posted on 03. Apr, 2012 by Kenny.
It seems that there really isn’t any shortage of Easter resources. From curriculum, video, and other needs, you can find just about anything you’re looking for. But that’s not true of Good Friday. It appears that most resources seem to lump all of Good Friday and Easter into one package, but the Good Friday stuff really can’t stand on it’s own. With more churches offering Good Friday services, events and experiences, the need for stuff specific to Good Friday has increased.
At Gateway we’re doing a very interesting and unique (unique to us) experience for Good Friday which I’ll write about later. We’re putting together a family experience around around Good Friday and we really had a difficult time finding what we were looking for. With what we did find, it was hard to find something that wasn’t too bloody and something that wasn’t too cheesy.

App of the week: Glo
Posted on 01. Apr, 2012 by Kenny.
A couple of weeks ago a co-worker was sitting next to me during a staff small group meeting and he was looking up a scripture passage. Instead of YouVersion (which is a great app and I highly recommend), he was using something different. there was something amazingly refreshing and different about the layout. He told me about it and I downloaded the free “lite” version. It’s the Bible app “Glo.”
If you have a iPad, I highly recommend the app. Here’s the best way I can describe how it is different from all the other Bible apps.

The Eric Trap has arrived… kinda
Posted on 29. Mar, 2012 by Kenny.
So this is what just arrived in the mail yesterday. It’s so exciting to see the culmination of this project. It’s truly been something that’s been in the works for years. It was so much fun putting it together and I think it’s going to be even more fun interacting with people who read it.
You may be wondering… “how do I get a copy?”

Awkward Curriculum Conversations
Posted on 19. Mar, 2012 by Kenny.
Two weeks ago, Jonathan Cliff wrote a wonderful post on the Curriculum war. I’m really glad he wrote it. Whether people would actually own up to it or not, there is a battle going on in the world of kidmin curriculum. There are some very strong opinions, mostly those of vocal users who want to explain why one is better, more Biblical or theologically correct. Honestly, I feel that these conversations are more hurtful than helpful in most respects. Most of the jabs at curriculum are not about Biblical inaccuracies, but philosophical disagreements that just about anyone could argue both sides equally well.
That manifestation of this curriculum war became very apparent for me last week. LifeWay graciously invited me to blog at the media launch of their new Gospel Project.… Read the rest

Unveiling the Gospel Project
Posted on 15. Mar, 2012 by Kenny.

Yesterday I had the privlidge of attending Lifeway’s web broadcast announcing the Gospel Project. It was a great day of learning, exploring what the Gospel Project was all about and connecting with some new friends. The people at Lifeway were great hosts and I’m glad to know so many of them now.
I’m sure the webcast will be available to watch later (I’ll post a link when it is) and I encourage you to watch it. I don’t know how many people were watching the stream, but twitter was blowing up using #thegospelproject. Actually, this hashtag was trending globally, which is VERY impressive.
The webcast featured three speakers, Matt Chandler, J.D. Greear, Ed Stetzer with Trevin Wax moderating discussion. Here’s a little of the content:

Matt Chandler
- Paul seems eager to keep the message of the Gospel in front of those who are following Christ, not just for those who weren’t following Jesus.

The Gospel Project
Posted on 14. Mar, 2012 by Kenny.

Today is a big day for Lifeway! For the last several months, you may have seen that Lifeway has been working on a new curriculum called the Gospel Project. Not only is this a new curriculum for kids, but curriculum for every age group. It’s a curriculum that ties every Bible story in the scripture to the greater redemptive story of Jesus and his death on the cross.
Today at 2:00 PM, Lifeway is streaming a live webcast to communicate more about the Gospel Project. I’ll be blogging about the webcast because I’ll actually be there for the event. Lifeway graciously invited me to attend the webcast in person and experience this product launch and share with the kidmin world through this blog.… Read the rest

A free and highly accessible kidmin resource
Posted on 31. Jan, 2012 by Kenny.

I’ve learned that most kid’s pastors I’ve met are highly resourceful. They’re always looking for great new resources and the cheaper it is, the better. If it’s free, well that’s incredible.
So, I figured that all the resourceful kidmin peeps who read this blog would be interested in this great free resource. Are you ready for this?
Really?
Here goes….
It’s called following #kidmin on twitter.
Wait a second, before you bail on this blog post, hear me out. Some of you have refused to get on twitter because you’ve not seen it’s relevance to your life or you don’t need another social media element in your life. I totally get that. However, you don’t have to sell your soul to Zuckerberg to get a twitter account (yes, I know Zuckerberg is with facebook, not twitter) and signing up for an account doesn’t mean you have to use it an the traditional way.… Read the rest

The birth of Kidmin
Posted on 30. Jan, 2012 by Kenny.

I’m always intrigued the origin of things. Why we say certain words or how names come about. What’s even more interesting is when you see the origin of something new right before your eyes. A handful of children’s pastors saw the very thing happen almost three years ago… the birth of “Kidmin.”
At this point, the term kidmin is still catching on, but I suspect that will change in the coming years and perhaps more people will refer to children’s ministry as kidmin as opposed to… well, children’s ministry.
For those of you who are new to this blog or the greater “kidmin” conversation, let me tell you how this whole thing got started.
I first became involved in children’s ministry as a four year old… back in 1981 and ever since then, I’ve been involved in the ministry either as a participant, a junior volunteer or as a ministry leader.… Read the rest
