Hey Kenny, I'm one of those people that you had never connected with prior to the Kidmin Biggest Loser.

As for networking. Prior to entering children's ministry I was the system administrator for the computer system in the emergency room where I currently work. While doing that I learned the importance of networking. I put together a network that now includes 50 or more different hospitals across America. I started this very selfishly. I was just looking for people to call on when I had a question. It turned into such a powerful source of information that most of the members go to that group with questions before going to the vendor.

Now, I am working on a similar thing in Kidmin. I think with cmconnect there is already the large scale, internet network that would compare to what I created for my previous job. So, I am working on something local. I have recently started Central Florida Children's Ministry. I am planning a meet and greet breakfast at my church and have started a Facebook page. Not sure where this will go, but it is a start.

Couldn't agree more in regard to the importance to look out into the future. I take churches I work through brainstorming exercises to do just that. Here are two activities to help churches look into the future of their kids
Have them brainstorm who they want the kids to be when they are 40 http://www.kidtrek-sundayplus.org/2010/10/12/child-discipleship-who-do-you-want-a-child-to-be-when-he-is-40/

Then brainstorm what the kids need today to get to that place at 40 http://www.kidtrek-sundayplus.org/2010/10/22/child-discipleship-what-do-kids-need-today-to-become/

In regard to family ministry - yes parents are first in importance when it comes to discipling children, however kids need other adults in their lives. The Lifeway study showed that. Another study that was done years ago also shows this. Parents can't do it alone.

I see too many churches pushing their responsibility onto the parents. Parents need the church to provide intentional training of themselves, and provide intentional discipleship of their children by other godly adults.

Kenny,

I loved this post.

When looking at different curriculum, this is something that I myself-as someone very young in ministry-have struggled with as well.. We are stewards of timeless truths and it is always critical to remember. What an opportunity, what a calling. Love it!

Kenny, that is a great and fun way to get information. It would probably work just as well with adults!

Too many times people forget this. I think a lot of churches are looking for the every elusive "perfect" curriculum. Like the fountain of youth or a shopping cart at Walmart that doesn't have that one wobbly wheel, it just doesn't exist.

The good news is that all of these curriculum companies have 1 amazing thing in common: phenomenal source material (The Bible). The question, then, comes down to which presentation works best for your church. Just because one works better for you doesn't mean the rest wrong. It just means they work better for someone else and there's nothing wrong about that.

Great conversation about vision on michaelhyatt.com, including a number of comments (some that I read and answered) about Strategy vs Vision. I think you should chime in, as you have some great points here!
