Okay, I’m going a little old school here. I’m looking for some really good “old-fashion” Bible Songs. Cheesy instrumentation is okay. Before you disown me and unsubscribe from this blog, let me explain… please. 🙂
Every night when I put Titus to bed, we read from his Bible and something that has been significant is singing together. For close to a month, we read the story of Joshua and Jericho because he really likes the song. I know that he’s learning the story and falling in love with his time in the Bible even more because he loves singing the songs. A few weeks later we started reading the story of Zacchaeus and he really likes that song as well. This week, we’ve been reading Daniel and the Lions Den, but I don’t know a song for that. However, I know that there are hundreds of simple Bible Songs and maybe there’s one about Daniel and the Lions Den.
So, do you know of a great resource for simple Bible Songs? Simple is okay, we just need to learn them some we can sing them during our Bible time. If the music is a little cooler and up-to-date, then that’s a bonus… but I’m not interested in techno or rap versions of these songs… my son is 3. 🙂
My sons favorite songs come from The Rizers!
Scripture put to rockin’ music.
Check them out here: http://www.therizers.com/
Also the Village Church has a free download of their children’s music that is excellent. “It’s called Jesus Came to Save Sinners”.
Get it here: http://fm.thevillagechurch.net/music
Check out Go Fish’s new CD – Kickin’ It Old School. Lots of old hymns updated with more of modern flare. It’s a good one, but I don’t recall specific stories.
Phil Joel has a new one out as well called Deliberate Kids II. There is a song on there called Be Courageous (I think). Part of the song is about the story of Daniel and the Lions Den.
Other than that, I don’t know of any. I think using music to help kids learn Bible Stories is a great idea. I’ve done the same thing with my kids and they seem to enjoy it!
O golden oldie for Daniel is this one. You can do actions to it as well. Kids love the SHUT! Open arms apart, one above the other, to represent a lion’s mouth, then shut quickly with a big clap. It may be a bit advanced for a three year old, but maybe he’ll enjoy it latwr, or sing along with you a little bit.
To the tune of “Jesus keep me near the cross”
Daniel was man of prayer
Daily he prayed three times
Even when they had him cast
In the den of lions
In the den, in the den
Fears could not alarm him
God just shut the lion’s mouths
So they could not harm him.
Yes! This is the one! I learned this 30 years ago and was trying to remember the lyrics to teach the children I nanny for. Thank you!
Heaven’s Sake Kids Songs has a Daniel in the Lions Den song. Its cute and to the point! They have some good classic songs!

haha. I still have “Zacchaeus was a wee little man” stuck in my head from Sunday School. Defiantly got me to remember who Zacchaeus was, but now when people talk about him I groan because it gets the song stuck in my head again. For the next week it will be running through my head. Well here are the lyrics for this song… defiantly a classic Bible song. Although I feel like I am forgetting a section of the song so these lyrics may not be complete. Hope this helps ya. 🙂
Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see.
And as the Savior passed him by, He looked up in the tree,
And he said, “Zacchaeus, you come down from there;
For I’m going to your house today, for I’m going to your house today”
Zacchaeus came down from that tree, as happy as he could be,
He gave his money to the poor, and said: “What a better man I’ll be.”
Have you ever heard of The Singing Bible? It’s meant for kids anywhere from 5-12 but I’ve even seen my younger nieces & nephews singing to it. I even find myself singing some of the songs 🙂 What’s really neat is that it’s not just songs but a story going on at the same time so it teaches kids the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. You can listen to 4 songs on their website in their “free stuff” section at this link http://singingbible.com/free-stuff/.
Hope this helps!
I’ve written some Bible songs you might like. You can see/hear/print them out from my website: Bible Songs And More
Daniel in the Lion’s Den
One time the prophet, Daniel
was forced to take a stand
Against his comrads and the king
Who dwelled there in the land
For they were very jealous]
And thought they’d down him then
By threatening that if he should pray,
They’d put him in the Lion’s den
Cho:
O Daniel, Brother Daniel
There’s lions in the den
But if you trust in God above
And don’t bow down to men.
The Lord will send his angel
And full deliverance give.
And you will come up shouting
From out of the Lion’s den.
Now Daniel, he was faithful
He prayed three times a day.
Although they brought him into court,
And the devil had his way.
The Lions they were powerless
Against God’s Spirit then
When wicked men in jealous,
Put Daniel in the lion’s den
The king was very sorry
For Daniel all that night
So, early in the morning came
To see if he was alright
How glad to hear his answer!
“The angels did defend”
And Daniel came up shouting
From out of the Lion’s den.
Now when they heard that Daniel
Had trusted in the Lord
They feared and trembled in their shoes
And believed the Living word.
And then the king commanded
And said “Go bring those men”
Who sought the harm of a child of God
Go put them in the Lion’s den.
Now if you’re serving Jesus
Like Daniel who was true
Old Jealously will set her trap
And try to catch you too.
But if you’re ever faithful
To trust in Jesus then
He’ll set you free with Victory
‘Way down in the Lion’s den.

Can you tell the tune for this? Please?
