When he started here, he wanted to change the way we did them. We are a large church (about 4000 members) but we do child dedications one at a time. Pastor will bring up the family and challenge them to be godly examples and to raise the child to know and love the Lord. He then asks the church if they will hold the family accountable to this and support them along the way. This has added much more purpose and a personal touch to our dedications.
