Help with a name!
Posted on 13. Jul, 2009 by Kenny in Fresh Ideas
Hey, I need a name for a two day event. I could use some of your ideas.
We’re doing a leadership event at our church called Advance. It’s a two day retreat over a Friday and Saturday. In the past we’ve offered childcare, but it’s been kinda lame. This year we’re making it an event geared to events. The strategy is that if the kids want to go, the paretns will be more likely to want to attend. We’ll do movies, pizza, crafts, games, water events, inflatable slides and such.
What can I call it that the name alone is energetic and fun sounding… but doesn’t sound dorky or too little kiddy. This will be geared to 4 year old through 5th graders. We’ll have a “Jr.” version for 3 and 4 year olds and we provide childcare for babies.
So, what do you think?

ooh ohh I know cal it KidSong…. oh wait that name is already used by Hillsong.
coud always go to the thesaurus for words that go with Advance:
(I like boost or jump)
1. To go forward, especially toward a conclusion: come (along), get along, march, move, proceed, progress. See approach/retreat.
2. To state, as an idea, for consideration: offer, pose, propose, propound, put forward, set forth, submit, suggest. See offer.
3. To cause to move forward or upward, as toward a goal: forward, further, promote. See forward/backward, help/harm/harmless.
4. To raise in rank: elevate, jump, promote, raise, upgrade. See rise/fall.
5. To attain a higher status, rank, or condition: ascend, climb, mount, rise. Idioms: go up the ladder. See increase/decrease, rise/fall.
6. To supply (money), especially on credit: lend, loan. See give/take/reciprocity.
noun
1. Forward movement: advancement, furtherance, headway, march, progress, progression. See better/worse, forward/backward.
2. The amount by which something is increased: boost, hike, increase, increment, jump, raise, rise. See increase/decrease.
3. A preliminary action intended to elicit a favorable response. approach, overture. See approach/retreat.

Hello Kenny,
We use the name “Accelerate” for our Ministry Partner gatherings. I love the idea of making “childcare” something that would be appealing for the kids and encourage better attendance at our important training events. What a great idea!

Keep it simple. Call it Jump. Bounce houses etc are an easy connect. Graphics can be lots of fun. Implies high energy fun that kids easily understand.

I may be leaning towards “Launch” with and incorporate a rocket in the graphic. It ties in with advance as well, huh?
Any more thoughts people? Good suggestions everyone… helps get the juices flowing.

I suppose naming a kids program “Hurl” is out of the question?
If you decide you don’t like Launch, but like the space theme, you could go with “Count Down.” In order for anything to advance, it had to get started, and nothing gets things (or kids) started like a good old-fashioned count down. Just an idea.

Launch is cool, you could go with Motion as a name (mainly because that’s my motion graphics software program) or less abstract than motion
Drive with a Racecar type theme or anything really.
Kickstart with an old school motorcycle maybe.
Blitz football or something

I was thinking the same thing as Paul, look up advance in the Thesaurus. I like initially thought Boost or LEAP.
Launch is a great idea, but widely used in kidmin, so if you want something original you may rethink that idea.
