Heavy attendance?

Today beings our season of highest attendance here at Gateway. Although our highest non-holiday weekend every year is typically the third weekend in January, often times our highest attendance weekend is sometime in February or March.
What about for you? When does your attendance really pick up? Do you do anything different or special during this season that causes the heavy attendance? When attendance is high, is there anything you do differently in response  in order to handle the larger crowds or to manage follow up?… Read the rest

Anyone take a bigger than normal hit on attendance in October?

This year our goal for Next Gen was to grow 20% and that is what we’ve been able to do. From August through September, we have had the highest kids attendance… EVER. However, October came and our numbers have been in the toilet. Two Sundays ago it was a very wet and rainy day which often affects our attendance, but this last Sunday was a beautiful day and numbers were low… like summer low.
I’m going to be looking at some trends from the past four years (since I’ve not been here long enough to have the history). However, I do know that the flu bug has been vicious here. H1N1 has ravaged the state of Texas and there are a couple other flu strains that have been affecting our families.… Read the rest

Watching the numbers

Something I’ve found to be true is that our “feeling” often deceive us. Too many times we also make decisions without taking an honest look at the data. One of my biggest pet peeves is when church leadership makes big (sometimes life-altering) decisions before getting all the facts. Looking at the data, interpreting the data and then asking some questions will help any leader really understand what is going on.
Last Sunday was a pretty full house here at Gateway. We’ve instituted the off-site parking shuttles and all the other things you do to “make room.” One of the things I learned last Sunday is that things were not as I had assumed.
