Why I blog so much

070423_blogging_monkeyIn recent months I’ve had a handful of people ask me why I blog as much as I do. Actually, more people ask how I blog as much as I do. The average Children’s Ministry blogger pushes out 2-5 posts a week where I push out 2-4 a day. Some of you will notice that the tempo has really picked up since Christmas. Well, there is a reason for the blogging insanity and I guess I’ll let you in on the motivation behind the posts.

My name is Kenny Conley and I’m addicted to goals.

That’s pretty much it. I love goals. I have grand goals in my life as well as silly little meaningless goals that I set each day.… Read the rest

Site of the week: Bookie Woogie

IsaacSpecialA few weeks ago I started a weekly series called app of the week that posts every Sunday. I think I’m going to start another weekly series to post ever Monday morning called site of the week. One of the best things about blogging is the way blogs are intended to link out to other sites. I seem to come across cool new sites all the time and I usually share the real gems with others on this blog. However, I’m going to be a little more intentional with a weekly post where I feature a great new blog or site that I’ve discovered.

So, this week I’m starting with a blog I found last night. It’s called Bookie Woogie. It’s a blog written by a dad and his kids.… Read the rest

Bringing big city quality to the small church

SmalltownUSAYesterday I became acquainted with Jared Massey. He did something he totally didn’t have to and it blessed me so much. He simply wrote to tell me how much he’s been encouraged and equipped by this little blog. The part that warms my heart the most is that he told me that I’m (indirectly) impacting the kids at his church in Warsaw, IL. I’ve never been there, but I’m grateful that the time I’ve put into this site is making a difference. :)

But this isn’t about me. Jared told me about his situation. He’s at a small church in a rural area and he’s got a vision that gets me excited. He’s challenged by a very limited budget, sparse resources and not much opportunity to network with other children’s pastors.… Read the rest

I’ve put it off long enough. I started cleaning up (and adding) tags to the hundreds of tagless posts back in September and in May I made some major “behind the scenes” changes to this blog. Now it’s time for the facelift. So, tonight I’ll be updating the look and feel of childrensministryonline.com. It will be in progress most of the afternoon and I hope to have most everything done before I hit the sack tonight. Feel free to drop in and tell me what you think.… Read the rest

Do you have a blog? Have you published your blog for Amazon’s Kindle yet? What are you waiting for? Do it right now, it only takes a second. Okay, maybe 3-5 minutes. Click here!

Do you think people are going to pay $2 a month to read your blog? Why not? :)

I personally don’t see people paying for blog subscriptions when they can get them for free everywhere else, but if and when they drop the fee, I want my feed available… and if someone want’s to pay for my feed in the meantime, I’m perfectly fine with that.… Read the rest

Let me re-feed you

Okay, in my transformation from www.childrensministryonline.com/blog to www.childrensministryonline.com, I lost some of my reader. Not too many, but some. I think I know what happened. I started blogging in April of 2007, but I didn’t start using feedburner to manage my feed until two or three months later. Some of my friends who said they haven’t been getting my feed since I made the move this weekend had my original feed address (pre-feedburner). So, if you haven’t gotten any of my posts since last week, let me re-feed you. Click on the RSS button to subscribe.

There are some of you who are wondering what the heck I’m talking about. RSS, feeds and burning stuff, huh? You may have thought that this post was an invite to my place for dinner.… Read the rest

Children’s Ministry Online is fixed (mostly)

Posted on 15. May, 2009 by .

Okay, I had a crazy long night last night moving my domain. You can read about it here.

I got the site back up, but there were major problems. Then my friend… did I say friend? My hero Even Doyle came to the rescue. Holy cow. He had this thing fixed in minutes. Amazing! I told him that I’d kiss him if we was closer. I think that really bothered him.

Look how bad I looked. That’s three hours of sleep there. It’s 4:00 in the afternoon and I haven’t shaved or showered. I’m a mess.

Even Doyle is my HERO from Kenny Conley on Vimeo.

Yes, that was “Sweet Home Alabama” on my phone for my wife’s ring.… Read the rest

Pray for my blog

Posted on 14. May, 2009 by .

Ha! Actually it’s probably more of a pray for me deal. Starting tonight, I’m going to move my blog. I’m moving it to a new host. I’ve been getting it all cleaned up these last few months, now I’m ready to make the move. Just pray that the move goes well and I don’t pull out too much of my hair.

Here’s where I’m the most nervous. I’m moving my blog from www.childrensministryonline.com/blog down to www.childrensministryonline.com. By doing that, I mess up all incoming links to my blog. I should be able to fix this with a 301 redirect, but I’ve never really done this before. So again, pray my patience.

If the site seems to disappear for a little while, that is probably why.… Read the rest
