I feel like I’m sooooo behind!

I’m having a blast at Orange. Day two was incredible. However, I’ve been sooooo busy. I don’t have Internet at the conference, so I’m having to catch up with everything once I get back to the hotel. I had 40 emails by the end of the day (ha, and I’m not officially working yet). I also have several sessions to blog. In addition to all of that, I’ve got a few things for Gateway to work on (I start on Sunday) and other logistics to work out for our move. In addition, I’ve been connecting with so many old and new friends at the confernece… there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I haven’t even looked at my Google reader yet… I’m afraid of how many blog posts are sitting there waiting for me….… Read the rest

100th post milestone

I’ve always felt it was important to celebrate milestones. For me I just passed the 100 mark which I feel very good about. Actually, I’ll be celebrating 1 year of blogging in a little over a week, so that will be another milestone as well. I certainly would have liked to have had more than 100 posts this far into blogging, but I did have some valid events come up in my life. Interestingly enough, I am also celebrating my 100th post on my personal/family blog today as well (honestly, I didn’t plan that at all) which I started several months after this one. In the times that I was not blogging regularly for this site, I was continuing to post on my family blog.… Read the rest

What do you use to blog? I’m using Windows Live Writer!

Capture3-6-2008-11.36.04 PM When it comes to tech, I’m Switzerland. No really, I’m truly neutral. Actually, that’s not completely true. I’m Switzerland with some strong opinions. I’m a big believer in anything “open.” I love Google and want them to continue to succeed because I think they’re giving the big boys like Microsoft a run for their money. So, all this being said, I don’t vote a straight ticket. I use whatever is best out there. For blogging, I’ve been using a Microsoft product.… Read the rest

Blogging from your mobile device

Posted on 18. Mar, 2008 by .

screenshot-5I use wordpress for my blogs. It’s easy and open for 3rd party developers to enhance the experience. As I posted earlier, I write all my blogs in Windows Live Writer and publish directly from there. I will log into wordpress only to manage my posts. The only think I haven’t really taken advantage of was blogging from my phone/mobile device. WordPress and blogger (I’m sure others do as well, but I haven’t used them) allow you to send emails to your blog which automatically turn the the messages into posts. I’ve also accessed the admin side of my blog from my phone, but the internet viewing experience isn’t that rich on most mobile devices (I know… unless it’s an iPhone).… Read the rest

Allegorical blogging: because ministry is poetic

Posted on 13. Mar, 2008 by .

Sometimes I chuckle to myself when people use far-fetched allegories. You know what I’m talking about… using something you’ve noticed or read and applying it to a spiritual or ministry situation. Sometimes the allegory is quite the stretch. Actually the point is usually incredible, it’s just the association that brings a smile to my face. “Yesterday I found a hairball in my soup and that got me thinking… sometimes in ministry I find things I didn’t expect in the programs I oversee.” Okay, that was kind of cheesy, but you know what I’m talking about. By no means am I asking you to stop though, the fact that I get a kick out of them it makes it stand out in my memory.… Read the rest

Gnawing at me for too long

frustrated2Ever have one of those things in the back of your mind that just doesn’t go away? Maybe it’s something you know you should do, but either you don’t want to or it’s not the right time. For me that has been Children’s Ministry Online. As you may know, I’ve been in “transition” for these past few months. That’s fancy speak for “I’ve been unemployed,” which I’ll write about a little later. Once I lost my job, I was double whammy-ed with a loss of a grandmother and a quick move. All of these things got me out of my rhythm to some degree. As I sat down to write a post or two, the inspiration well was dry. It seemed that so much of what I had been writing was an overflow of what I was doing on a regular basis.… Read the rest

Getting back at it!

I can’t believe how hard it has been to get back into this. I really felt the Lord leading me to start blogging back in the Spring and have had so much fun doing it. Then when the summer hit with a packed out schedule and a new baby to arrive… I fell of the face of the blogging earth! For the past several weeks I’ve had thoughts and ideas pop into my head and I’d say, “Hmm, I should blog that.” However, getting back into the routine has been so hard. My wonderful wife really encouraged me last week to make a greater effort to jump back in, so here I am.… Read the rest

Really, I didn’t quit blogging!

Well, I’m going to be easing back into blogging regularly. In many ways I’m dissapointed that I haven’t been able to keep up the blog… even if it was just once a week. However, it has been a busy summer (it’s not over yet either) and I had a son only 5 weeks ago. So, I don’t feel so bad about taking 5 weeks off. In actuality, I’ve been keeping up my family blog as well as a new blog on our church website for parents, it’s just been this blog that I’ve neglected.

So, I’ve got many posts coming soon. We had our best Venture Quest ever, I just got back from our first kid’s missions trip (phenominal) and I’m about 10 days away from summer camp.… Read the rest

God spoke to me through the internet!

God spoke to me last night. You’re reading this right now (if anyone is reading this) because God spoke to me last night! It was very late and I was jumping around the web, reading various articles and blogs on Children’s Ministry. Usually I’m surfing the web doing research and looking for fresh ideas, but last night I was more obsessed with finding out who was blogging all things children’s ministry. There were definitely more bloggers than I expected to find, but certainly not enough. I went to be determined that I was going to start blogging right away.Read the rest
