Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader IS coming

I could have sworn I wrote a post about this last year sometime, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. Oh well.
Last year it was announced that Disney was done with Narnia. The first movie, “Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe” was a box office hit; however, “Prince Caspian” was not as spectacular. Actually, Capian made over 200 million in profit, it just wasn’t as huge of a hit as the first movie. I’ve also heard that Walden Media (who partnered with Disney) did a little unfair negotiating between the two movies and this was Disney’s way of letting them have it. So, last year it was uncertain whether any more Narnia movies would be made.
I guess someone forgot to tell me. Last summer, filming began on the third installment, “Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” Walden Media partnered with 20th Century Fox to make it happen. Personally I’m thrilled. I thought Caspian was a better movie than the first and Voyage is probably one of my favorite books.
So, “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is set to hit screens on December 10th, 2010. Woo hoo! Follow all your Narnia news (if you’re like that) here.

My Name is Sam Luce and I’m Edmound.

One of the things that bothers me about Easter more than the Easter bunny is the fact that as Christians we don’t communicate the power of the cross enough.
One of the most powerful movies that tells of what Jesus did on the cross is the Passion of the Christ a powerful movie portraying what Jesus did for us. I know when I saw The Passion for the first time I sat in stunned silence overwhelmed at the greatness of what Jesus did for me.
To me the Passion of the Christ portrayed the message found in John.
John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
As powerful as the Passion is to me the greatest personal example of what Jesus did is found in the C. S. Lewis classic The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I still remember the first time I saw Aslan talking to Edmound after he had come back from being with the Witch and betraying his family. I was overwhelmed because I am Edmound. I saw in that boy my desires that draw me away. I saw in Edmound all the pain of sin I want to help my boys avoid. I saw in Edmound the redemptive work of God available to me and for me to share with others who aren’t always perfect.
To me the message of the C. S. Lewis classic is found in Luke.
Luke 6:32-35
32″If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be repaid in full. 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
I know for me the cross is a constant reminder that I am Edmound and am just as much in need of a Savior today as I was yesterday.
