More camp randomness
Posted on 10. Jun, 2008 by Kenny.
Okay a few more silly things from camp today:
- I’ve made a new friend. The Colton kid I talked about earlier… his name is actually Collin. He’s my new buddy. Tonight we had an extra long “fun hour” talent show. Colton was sitting right beside me and noticed I had a pimple on my arm… yeah, I’m sure you wanted to know this. As any kid would, Colton looks at me and asks, “what’s that?” I tell him it’s a pimple. He looks at me with a funny face and then pulls my sleeve up a little more to inspect for more pimples. He begins counting freckles, blemishes or whatever else he can find on that arm and then to the next.

My Mid-Week ambitions
Posted on 08. Jun, 2007 by Kenny.
Recently I’ve posted in in various forms/blogs about my Wednesday night experiences. I created an elective based program in my early years of ministry… which it just about killed this idealist. Several years later (and hopefully a little smarter) I began creating a new small group curriculum. I just finished my first year (of three) which includes separate material for K-2nd grade as well as 3rd-5th grade. I’ll write more about how third curriculum was developed and what it will cover these next two years in a future post.… Read the rest

With great excitement I’m embarking on a great new ministry for kids at Cross Timbers. This July I’ll be taking a team of 40 to Mexico on a missions trip. Although mission trips to Mexico are about a common as Baptist Churches in the South, the unique element of SURGE is that we’re taking 4th and 5th graders.… Read the rest

The Ultimate Lock-In – Managing chaos!
Posted on 24. Apr, 2007 by Kenny.
One more Ultimate Lock-In… in the bag! As further detailed here, I carried out the 2007 Ultimate Lock-In on Friday, April 20. Probably due to my youth and my quest for fun, I keep my kids up late. Many times, my kindergartners start dropping like flies once we get past the 2:00 am threshold. It was great fun and I think I’d only change a few things.
Here’s the details:
- $20 a kid ($15 each additional sibling)
- 186 kids
- 45 pizzas
- 2 school busses

Small Groups for Kids: One year down, two to go!
Posted on 18. Apr, 2007 by Kenny.
Woo hoo! Today was a great day. I officially finished the first year of my mid-week program that I am writing, simply called “Small Groups for Kids.” After having tried nearly all the mid-week programs and not loving any of them, I decided to write my own. Of all the curriculum I’ve tried, there were things I liked. But with each one of them, I was left wanting. Here are the things that I didn’t see any curriculum addressing?… Read the rest
