Jim Wideman’s Good Friday sale
Posted on 30. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
Last week I got this email from Jim Wideman. I thought I’d pass it along to you. Yesterday I shared how everyone needs a coach. Jim’s my coach and he could be your coach as well.
On Friday, April 2nd JWM is going to put on a sale like you have never seen before. I know that budgets have been cut and many of you have been hurt by the economic crisis in our country so I want to help. Back last year I cut the price of theClub in half for people over 30 and started giving it away free for those under 30.
For 1 day I’m going to cut the price of most of my resources including my 1 day Coaching/Seminars called “Day Trips”.

Everyone does better with a coach
Posted on 29. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
This is a simple truth I’ve learned over the past year. Everyone does do better with a coach. I’ve learned this through personal experience. I’ve just entered my second year of Infuse with Jim Wideman and he’s helping me be a better version of myself. There’s little debate over what Jim’s accomplished over the 30 years of ministry to kids. His track record is nothing short of amazing. However, I’ve picked up very few tips and tricks from him that I can apply in Children’s Ministry (although he’s been a great source of wisdom there). What I’ve picked up from Jim this last year is how to be a better leader, how to better redeem the time I have each day, and I can better serve my church.… Read the rest

Learning from Jim Wideman
Posted on 05. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
This is my last post about Brother Jim for a little while. Over the past several days I’ve shared all the amazing thing’s I’ve learned from him, especially this year. I made a few adjustments to my schedule and my budget in order to spend another year in mentoring with him because I don’t think I’m done yet.
So, I’m gong to throw out a suggestion here. This is my blog and I’m certainly entitled to expressing my opinion here, right? Well, here goes.
Not taking advantage of what Bother Jim has to offer could be the greatest mistake you’ll make as a Children’s Pastor. Brother Jim has been serving in the trenches longer than many children’s pastors have been alive.… Read the rest

Things I’ve learned from Jim Wideman (part 3)
Posted on 04. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
One very important thing I learned from Jim Wideman on my last visit to Tennessee involved pacing in ministry. We’ve all got dreams for our ministries and more than anything, we’d like to see them all come true… sooner than later. If you’re like me, you get frustrated with how long change seems to take. Can you relate?
I’ve had the privilege of seeing the handiwork of Brother Jim at both Church on the Move as well as at World Outreach Church. The difference is night and day. The Children’s Ministry at World Outreach Church looks nothing like the Children’s Ministry at Church on the Move. Although he’s made a lot of changes in the last two years, I guess I just expected more (don’t get me wrong, Jim does everything with excellence.… Read the rest

Things I’ve learned from Jim Wideman (part 2)
Posted on 04. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
I’ve written a handful of posts this week about the influence Jim Wideman has had on my life. I got to spend a lot of time with him this year in Infuse and I’ve been sharing some of the big things I’ve learned. So here’s number two:
There’s plenty of time to do just about everything I want to do.
It sounds like a dream come true, doesn’t it. One thing I’ve said often (and something I hear people say all the time) is, “I wish there were just a few more hours in the day.” It just seems like we can’t get it all done. There are a lot of things I’d like to do, I just don’t have time for all of it.… Read the rest

Things I’ve learned from Jim Wideman (part 1)
Posted on 03. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
This week you’ve seen I’ve been writing a lot about Brother Jim. A year ago he asked me to join Infuse, his year long mentoring program. I joined and it’s been a great year. There have been a lot of factors in my life that have caused growth, but Infuse has certainly been one of them. I’ve recently decided to do a second year of Infuse. I’ve enjoyed the connections I made with the others in my group who will be doing a second year and I look forward to spending another year growing from Jim in an even small group.
Let me share with you a few things I’ve learned from Brother Jim that have impacted me greatly. These aren’t necessarily things you’d only learn from Infuse as most of these concepts you’ll read in his books or hear him speak about.… Read the rest

How I came to know Jim Wideman
Posted on 02. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
So two weeks ago I ventured out on a Kidmin Road Trip, but the main reason I organized the little adventure was because I had an Infuse retreat with Jim Wideman. It was a great retreat, but I’ll get to that later. I’d like to tell you how I came to know Jim Wideman. I’m writing this not to brag or boast who I know, but perhaps encourage you with my story. Why? Because it may serve you well to get to know Jim Wideman as well and the only thing holding you back is you.
So you have to know something about me. Although I’m a very self-confident person and an off the charts extrovert, I tend to be a little shy and soft-spoken in situations where I’m not in my element.… Read the rest

New books from Jim Wideman
Posted on 01. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
Two weeks ago I got to spend a few days with Jim Wideman. If you’re a Children’s Pastor and you’re not familiar with Jim Wideman, what rock have you been hiding under? This week I’m going to share a little about the impact this man has had on my life over the past 3 years. The cool thing is that he’s not this “far-from-reach” guy, but very approachable and so willing to mentor the next generation of leaders. More on that later though.
While with him I picked up three new books. One of them is a book he’s had out for a while (I’ve just never read it) and the other two are brand new.
Connect with your kids has been out for at least a few years.… Read the rest

Quit being a loner. Go meet someone!
Posted on 22. Feb, 2010 by Kenny.
I’m home form my six day kidmin road trip with fellow blogger and children’s pastor Sam Luce. First of all, it was a total blast. Shooting around Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio with the mission of connecting with as many children’s pastors as possible was a total blast. Over the 6 days, we connected with over a dozen children’s pastors, one kidmin band from New Zealand and the infamous Jim Wideman.
Our tour connected us with a virtual mosaic of personalities and ministry styles that both humbled and impressed me. On multiple occasions, reality defied my expectations in an unexpected, but pleasant way.
The biggest thing I’ve learned from this whole kidmin road trip is that ministry in isolation is stupid.… Read the rest

Orange 2008: Rethinking Children’s Ministry
Posted on 30. Apr, 2008 by Kenny.
I’ve really been looking forward to this breakout. It was a panel discussion of Children’s Ministry by Sue Miller, Jim Wideman, Craig Jutila and Norv Brown. What an incredible opportunity, huh?
I tell you, each person added so much. I do feel though that if anyone could spend a day with Jim Wideman and Craig Jutila, shut up and just listen, you’d advance many years in ministry in just that one day!!!
Here are some main things that were said that impacted me:
- Things are caught, not taught (Craig in reference to the importance of leaders who model faith to the kids)
- Buy curriculum, you can’t buy leadership (Craig in reference to CP’s who love spending time writing their own curriculum at the expense of developing leaders)
- Work on your Children’s Ministry, not in your Children’s Ministry!
