Let me introduce to you my favorite, non-ministry blog. It’s called Dixie Gypsy and it’s written by my beautiful wife. When I was 18 I made a list of the things I wanted in a wife (yeah, I was that kind of guy). I’ll share a secret with you. One of the items on the list was that she would be a Southern girl. Hey, what can I say? If you’re from the South, you know what I’m talking about. :)

So, my little Southern Belle is writing her own blog. Actually, she started the blog almost two years ago but got busy with other stuff. She’s back at it again, writing about food, trips we’ve taken and raising a little giant. She’s such a gifted writer and has such an amazing way with words. I think you’ll really enjoy reading her blog, but I’m partial.

So, click here to visit the Dixie Gypsy.

Guest Blogger: Sara Conley – Volunteer Week

Last week my wife wrote a couple of posts. If you missed them, you can catch them here and here.

I know I’m biased, but I felt she had some really good things to say. She’s actually worked on my staff as well as another campus’ staff as a volunteer director. She rocks. When she was a nursery director, only two times did she ever have someone no-show. Two times people, that’s unheard of. She developed an incredible report with her teams and she always knew who would be there, who wouldn’t and who’d be filling in.

So, I invited her to guest blog all this week. It’s Volunteer Week and she’s going to hit several issues regarding volunteerism. Here are a few examples:

  • Your ministry attitude toward volunteerism
  • Your ministry’s volunteer culture (didn’t know you had one… you need to read this one)
  • Cold Call recruiting (sometimes you have to do it)
  • Volunteer training

So, I’ll be blogging some this week as well, but if you only have time to read one post a day from this site… be sure to read Sara’s! You’ll be glad you did.

My first guest blogger

Okay, from the day I started this blog, I thought I’d open it up to writers other than myself. I thought that it would make this blog more well rounded and fun. My intern from this past summer will be guest blogging at some time, he’s already promised to write about his experience in Burkina Faso over Thanksgiving.

However, I’m honored to have a very special guest blogger today. I have amazing respect for this person as we’ve been very close friends for over a decade now. I can honestly say that this person’s influence has significantly influenced my career and I’m way better at what I do because of this person. Who is this special blogger?

Sara Conley, my wife. Yes, that’s right. In an hour a posting from my wife will publish on this site. You may be thinking, “Why on earth would you let your wife write on this blog, other than the fact that it’s cute or fun?” Well, there’s something you need to know about my wife. Although she has many passions and many accomplishments, she’s also the best volunteer recruiter I’ve ever known. No joke. Ever sit down in front of the phone with a list of cold “recruiting” calls? Yeah, shoot me now. My wife, she eats it up. Big time. I’m telling you, there is a lot we can all learn from her. So, enjoy her first post on Children’s Minsitry Online.

Oh, and she also has her own blog. It’s about food, travel and family from the perspeciteve of a sothern wanderer.
