Speaking from an iPad
Posted on 16. Jan, 2011 by Kenny.
Yesterday I used my iPad for a wedding. More than likely, I’m never going back to paper again. My next test will be to use it to teach from, which I’ll try out over the next few months.
I’ve always been the type to fully write out my talks and speak from that. So when I used my iPad yesterday, I had to modify my document for reading purposes. The 9 point font was just a little too hard to see, so I jumped it up to 17 points. Perfect.
I was also a little curious as to how I was going to access my file. After playing around with it for a few minutes, put copies of the document in both word and pdf formats in dropbox.… Read the rest

The Power of Story
Posted on 05. Jan, 2011 by Kenny.
So I’m in Birmingham and yesterday I got to spend four or five hours with Daniel White, one of the Children’s Pastors at Church of the Highlands. Incredible guy. Sam Luce, Daniel and I hung out at a Starbucks until they closed and then in our hotel lobby until we were just getting slap happy at the late hour.
Or conversations rabbit trailed from favorite movies to past church experiences to funny comedy sketches and most importantly, the Rumspringa. As random as our conversations were, one thing that came up several times and as I went back to the room later, I couldn’t stop thinking about the idea of the power of the story.
Daniel is a sharp guy, insanely creative and talented.… Read the rest

Personal review for camp
Posted on 21. Jun, 2010 by Kenny.
Kids Camp 2010 for our kids was pretty phenomenal. There are some things I’d like to see different for next year, but the experience was powerful. We took 58 kids this year and I can’t imagine we’ll take any less than 100 next year, not with the feedback parents and kids will hear from this year’s camp.
Personally, this was one of the best camp experiences I’ve ever had. It was a really unique opportunity for our church as for me. I guess I’ll start off at the beginning. I’m a HUGE believer in the power of camp. I went to summer camp as a 3rd-5th grader and have very specific and tangible memories of God’s work in my life at summer camp.… Read the rest

Still fabulous
Posted on 30. Aug, 2009 by Kenny.
Two years ago I wrote a book review on Aaron Reynolds’ book, The Fabulous Reinvention of Sunday School. Last week I got a DVD in the mail. Essentially it was a promo DVD promoting the book and Aaron’s “Master Class” which comes on DVD when you buy at least 5 copies of the book from the Willow Creek Association. I’m going to pick up five more of these book so that I can get this DVD. It’s something my teachers need to see and I know many who need to read this book as well. Whether you’ve read the book or not, watch the video below, it will charge you up (even though it is essentially a commercial)!
