Hey to all my children’s ministry friends who twitter. My friend John @johnincolorado asked if I knew if there was a commonly used hashtag for children’s ministry. What a great idea. I’ve not seen one. Initially he suggested #childrensminisry. Personally I think it’s too long. Perhaps #CM or #KidsMin. What do you all think? Let’s figure one out this week, make sure there’s not already a hashtag for this and then start using it. That way when we twitter CM specific stuff, we can add the hashtag to categorize these in the twitter world.
Also, another request. I’m still very new to the hashtag business. When I started seeing everyone begin to use them, I tried looking them up in google and wikipedia and couldn’t really find very helpful explanations. I also wasn’t using very sophisticated twitter applications that serched hashtags. Anyone want to write a blog post or two about hashtags, what they are, which ones are some good ones to follow and how you use any particular twitter application to follow hashtags. I know there’s a lot for me to learn and I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there who still don’t have a clue what a hashtag is.
I nominate Sammy Luce.

Hashtags are new to me Kenny but I think it sounds cool. I like #KMag. Just kidding. I like #CM personally. I am anxious now to to learn more about these tags. Good thinking. RYAN
I agree with Ryan, I like the #CM. I don’t really know much about hashtags but would like to here more it sounds pretty cool.
In a nutshell…a hashtag is simply a search term, a shortened word which has the # sign in front of it. This creates a sort of group or catagory that can be searched for in twitter search using that tag to see all tweets in that catagory whether you follow someone or not.
You can also use tweetchat.com with that same hashtag for the room to see all tweets happen live that have the hastag…it will also put the hashtag on your tweet for you.
I would say #KidMin as that is 7 characters about as short as you can get and not lose meaning.
We used it for the innovation3 conference by putting #i3.
I would suggest keeping it short as it takes from the 140 characters.

I’d say kidsmin….while I like CM and prefer the shortness, my wife said she thought I was secretly scrap booking when I kept mentioning CM tweets….CM could also mean the Creative Memories group of peeps.

i’m for whatever we all agree upon. short is a good idea, kenny. #Cmin #KidMin #bestjobinthewholewideworld #CM
they all work for me as long as they are not used in another arena/sector
have a great day.
Characters count in twitter, so the shorter the better, #CM would be great if not already in use. I just hate how many clicks # is on the iphone. Otherwise we can use #becausejesusloveschildren 🙂
#CM is already taken with something… not sure what
I vote for #KidMin… I agree with Jason that this is probably the shortest hashtag without losing meaning.

Hashtags are always in a state of flux, thus no one really “owns” them. Thus, you could repurpose a tag that has been used in the past if the populous decides to do so.

just talking with a friend and he suggests just overtaking the #cm hashtag, which when I think of it… is probably not a bad idea. Why not? It’s short.
