I read John’s post here on desktop inspiration and I was convicted.
I’ve had the same desktop for the last 9-10 months, and it wasn’t even that creative. Probably the true reason I didn’t update my desktop was because I couldn’t even see it. Yes, I had become a desktop clutter bug. Check out the screen shot I took a few months ago.
Yowch! That’s embarrassing.
It was actually really embarrassing as someone would come to look at something on my computer and make some remark about my desktop. My clutter certainly didn’t do anything for my creativity.
So, I’ve uploaded a new desktop. It’s also a built in calendar, so when June comes around, I have to change it. Well, I don’t have to, but I’ll look extra stupid with a May desktop. Kinda like that person with a desk calendar that’s been on Ocober of 2006 since… well… October of 2006.
So, my accountability here is to keep my desktop clean and uncluttered so that my creative workspace has a place to breath.

that’s pretty… clean.
John (Human3rror)’s last blog post..Humbled.
Phew…I’m not the only one prone to a cluttered desktop!! I actully got busted by our Tech suppourt department for my desktop mess! I quickly cleared it up and added a great image in it’s place. Great blog, I love reading it!

I physically cringed when I saw how your desktop looked like 😉 The one place I am ultra organized in on my computer. I try and keep it clean… right now, my wife has started to clutter it. I’m creating a folder for her and putting all her stuff in there… off my desktop 🙂 Now, if could just be as clean and ultra organized physically as I am virtually!
I would like to call your post “Desktop Self Portrait”. I will let you decide if I think the mass of clutter is the self portrait or the hot dog, but either way I think it works.
Hmmm, thanks Matt. I feel like I am at the counselor’s office. Some people do ink blots, others do desktops.
I do think you have a point though. Without any intervention, I think I will default to the messy desktop. I am very thorough, organized and detailed (one of my top three gifts is administration), yet I have certain areas of my life that get cluttered. I love the clean desktop and the clean workspace, but I have to fight for it.
There’s a look into my psyche.
I set your old desktop image as my new wallpaper
Jonathan, if you want I can actually send you all the files that were on my desktop and you can have a more realistic experience. How does that sound?
